Come with me on Pilgrimage...
|
|
So far, I haven't really left
Shenzhen. I have high hopes for visits to many of China's premier Buddhist
sites, but first I want to increase my understanding by visiting local temples,
so that when I go, I'll know what I'm looking at! Meanwhile, I have
been in portions of Shenzhen outside of the "Special Economic Zone,"
and--since this area is distinguished from the central part of Shenzhen--I am
counting the temples I saw there as being in "Greater China."
Happy reading!

Tien Hou Temple,
Dapeng Fortress, Longgang, Shenzhen, Guangdong, China
Dedicated to a Goddess of the Sea who is also the Empress of Heaven. She is a uniquely Chinese figure. The temple is about
two hours from where I live in Shenzhen, Guangdong. It is located within
an ancient "fortress"--actually a walled village--which,
although a "historic site," is still occupied.

Tu Di Shrine, Dapeng Fortress, Longgang, Shenzhen, Guangdong, China
Located in the same town as the "Tien Hou" temple above, this
small shrine pays tribute to the ubiquitous "Earth God" as
represents this particular region.
